Ron Cloward’s Bio
Ron Cloward retired as a Lieutenant from the 14th largest police department in California. Ron has a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and has been a full time law enforcement officer for 26 years. Ron started working a police dog in his third year of law enforcement. Ron worked three different canines on patrol prior to being promoted to sergeant in 2000. He has been involved with police canines for 23 years. He has attended basic and advanced handler courses certified by California P.O.S.T. Ron trained with the Danish Police for a month in 1994. Ron has logged over 5000 hours of canine training time.
Ron has worked assignments in Patrol, investigations, narcotics, and the Tactical Patrol Unit. He has also served as a Public Information Officer. Ron holds a Basic P.O.S.T. certificate, Intermediate P.O.S.T. certificate, Advanced P.O.S.T. certificate, Supervisor P.O.S.T. certificate, and Management P.O.S.T. certificate. He has received P.O.S.T. certificates for Executive Development and the Role of a Police Chief.
Ron designed and implemented a surveillance camera system in the downtown area for the Modesto Police Department. He authored policies for the system. Ron is an instructor for Emergency Vehicle Operations and has several P.O.S.T. certificates for driving instruction including Pursuit Immobilization Technique.
He currently the Director of Law Enforcement Services for VCSi. He is instrumental in helping law enforcement agencies all over the US setup and optimize their K-9 units. Ron is on staff with Bob Eden’s Consulting Group as a consultant for the International Canine Conference. He has presented at conferences all over the country and writes for two separate international K9 magazines.
Ron is also a P.O.S.T. certified evaluator for patrol and narcotics. He is also a certification official for Narcotic Canines with Western States Police Canine Association. Ron is currently the president of Western States Police Canine Association
